When to call for well pump repair
Most folks never think about their pump until the faucet coughs and goes quiet. A submersible pump sits down in the well where you never see it, so the first clues show up in the house. These are the calls we get most.
- No water at all. The taps are dry and the pressure gauge sits near zero.
- The pump runs constantly. It never seems to shut off, even when nobody is using water.
- A tripping breaker. The well breaker keeps kicking off, sometimes right after a reset.
- Air spitting from faucets. Sputtering taps can point to the pump, a leak in the line, or a low water level.
- Pressure swings. The shower goes strong, then weak, then strong again.
None of these always means a dead pump. A pump that never shuts off can even be a running toilet. Pressure swings are often a tired pressure tank. That is why we diagnose before we replace anything. We would rather tell you the pump is fine than sell you one you did not need. For the full rundown, read our post on the 7 signs your well pump is failing.
What to do before you call
Keep it simple and safe. Check the well breaker in your panel. If it tripped, reset it once. If it trips again, turn it off and leave it off. Please do not open the pressure switch cover, touch any wiring, or try to pull the pump yourself. If you have no water, call our emergency line at 703-776-0996. If the power just went out, our guide on losing water after a power outage explains a common switch issue.
How we handle well pump repair and replacement
When a pump has failed, we pull it, confirm the cause, and set a new submersible pump sized for your well and your household. The pumps we put in are Gould, Myers and Grundfos. Every pump install carries a 5-year warranty, and our work meets county code.
Constant pressure systems
A constant pressure system uses a variable speed drive to hold pressure steady, so a second shower does not make the kitchen tap sag. We install them from Gould, Myers and Grundfos. They suit bigger households and anyone tired of pressure swings. If a standard pump and tank will serve you just as well, we will say so.
How long does a well pump last?
On average, 10 to 15 years. The real number depends on static water level, well depth, water quality and usage. There is no true routine maintenance for a submersible pump, but a well set tank helps. More in how long a well pump lasts.
Where we work
We cover Prince William County, Fauquier County and the surrounding counties, including Bristow, Haymarket, Warrenton and Catlett. No-water calls take priority.
Call for a free diagnosis
Diagnosis is free, within reason. We often sort out the cause on the phone before we come out. Call 703-791-3981 any time, day or night.
If the pump turns out to be fine, we say so. Plenty of calls end with a new switch, a tank recharge or a reset breaker, and we would rather earn the next call than sell a pump nobody needed.
