Is it the pump, or something around it?
That is the first thing we sort out on any call for well pump repair in Haymarket. A tripped breaker, a pressure switch that dropped out after a storm, or a waterlogged tank can all look like a dead pump. We check those first. Nobody should buy a pump they do not need.
When the pump really is finished, we say so plainly and lay out your choices. We work Haymarket wells across 20169, from town lots to rural acreage, and diagnosis is free within reason.
How old is the pump in your well?
A submersible pump lasts on average 10 to 15 years. Static water level, well depth, water quality and household use all push it one way or the other. There is no true routine maintenance for a submersible, so age is often the best clue you have.
Signs an older pump is near the end:
- Pressure fades in the shower, then comes back
- The pump runs a long time to refill the tank
- The breaker trips when the pump starts
- Air spitting from the faucets
- No water at all
A pump that never shuts off is a different story. Before blaming the pump, listen for a running toilet or look for a wet spot in the yard. Either one can keep a healthy pump running for hours.

Standard pump or constant pressure?
Plenty of rural lots off Route 15 and Route 55 run a standard pump with a pressure switch and tank. It is simple and easy to service. A constant pressure system changes pump speed to hold pressure steady, so the shower does not drop off when someone runs a tap downstairs.
We handle both through our well pump repair and replacement service, using Gould, Myers and Grundfos equipment sized to your well. Every pump install carries our 5-year warranty and meets county code. We will walk you through the choice without pushing the pricier option. If your tank is tired too, pressure tank replacement in Haymarket can often happen on the same visit, and our pressure tank page explains why.
Before you pick up the phone
- Check the well breaker in your panel. If it tripped, reset it once. If it trips again, leave it off.
- Lost power recently? The switch may need a reset. See lost water after a power outage.
- The switch cover stays on, and the wiring is ours to handle.
