Pump problem or water problem?
A lot of Bristow calls start with a smell, not a dead pump. Someone turns on the shower and gets rotten eggs, or notices white crust building on the faucets. Parts of Prince William sit on red shale and sandstone, and hard water, iron and sulfur are common complaints there.
That matters for your pump. Scale and iron can build up in the pump, the pipes and the pressure switch over time. So when we do well pump repair in Bristow, we look at the water as well as the equipment. Fixing one and ignoring the other often means another call down the road.
Older rural homes and newer ones
Bristow, ZIP 20136, is a mix. Some homes along Linton Hall Road and off Route 28 are newer. Others are older rural properties with wells that have been in service a long time. Each brings its own issues, and we see plenty of both.
On older wells
Pumps near the end of their 10 to 15 year life, old tanks, and worn well caps. A pump that trips the breaker or runs without stopping is a common sign. Read why a well pump keeps tripping the breaker.
On newer wells
Owners who have never dealt with a well before. Pressure swings, cloudy water after heavy use, and questions about the tank. Our guide to cloudy well water is a good start. Many newer owners have never seen the pump and are not sure where the well breaker is, and that is fine. We will show you on the first visit.
What we do on a Bristow pump call
We start with a free diagnosis and check the pump, pressure switch, tank air charge and wiring. If the pump needs replacing, we install Gould, Myers or Grundfos, including constant pressure systems, backed by a 5-year warranty.
If the water is hard or smells, we will tell you and explain the options. We do not push equipment you do not need.
Before we arrive, you can check the well breaker and, with the power off, the tank’s air charge with a tire gauge. It should read about 2 psi under the low switch number. Leave the switch cover and wiring alone.
Treatment that protects the pump
The fix for sulfur or hardness is usually well water treatment in Bristow, such as a softener or a sulfur filter. It starts with well water testing so we know what we are treating. See also water treatment and why well water smells like rotten eggs.
We also handle pressure tank replacement, well casing repair and emergency well service.
